about

Inner Mission records an era of "letting go". Co-founder Schatz became pre-occupied with Mega*Church and Rainbow and the Kittens. DWL's live formations always included Jenkins and Ronet, usually Bryant, and a round of ad hoc performers. The west coast tour of '08 included a guest sit-in for most shows, (presented here, Brown and Cunitz). When Jenkins joined the band in November of '07, he brought pure improvisation and all pre-meditated concepts were eliminated. I must say, Jenkins' point of view on improvisation has meant a great deal to the band over the years.

Stuewe joined the band offering new rhythms and live acoustic percussive effects around late spring '08, during a period in which Jenkins was not performing with anybody. A brief series with Dana Valatka and Stuewe had defined the band as percussive. Performances with thematic movements begin to develop of their own accord, form is adopted from nothing. Various special radio and recording sessions happened and the complete band managed to come together in some way. In the case of EaTv, I had special overdub sessions scheduled at my bunkhouse studio on Forest Farm.

The period closes in 2009 when I become preoccupied with band, Imra, a duo with former creative and life partner, Kelly Slusher. So DWL makes only 2 shows throughout 2009, thanks to Jim McAdams with a performance on "Whats This Called?!" KPSU and the Olympia Experimental Music Festival. With Kelly and Alyssa Reed providing entrancing vocals and the addition of Jerry Soga on bass, the band and audience enjoyed possibly our best live performance, yet the recordings seem to be lost. So the next phase of our development is "Popped", our first substantially produced full-length.
